James had a decorated junior career in New Zealand winning the 12s, 14s, 16s and 18s Nationals singles titles, he also won 5 ITF singles titles and had a top 100 junior world ranking. His junior career was highlighted by playing Junior Davis Cup, World Youth Cup as well as being in the main draw of the 2008 Junior Australian Open. After completing a full tennis scholarship at Boise State University where he was the 23rd ranked singles player in all Division 1 Universities, James has returned to Christchurch where he now holds positions as Cashmere Tennis Club Head Coach as well as working with Matt passing on his knowledge to the top juniors in Canterbury.

 

James also is the Cashmere Tennis Club junior administrator. Since returning from America James is unbeaten in Canterbury Premier Interclub in 150 combined singles and doubles matches and won the 2017 NZ Doubles Championship and the 2017 Canterbury Open Singles. James has been Tennis Canterbury Player of the Year on 4 occasions including 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018.
